Their shapes are as varied as the colours that compose them. Alkeis have 4 minor cores distributed throughout their limbs and a main core in the centre of their bodies which holds the other four together. This means that an Alkei cannot lose a limb unless the core it possesses is detached from the body, but if this core is reattached to the body, it will regain its limb.

Alkeis are a long-lived breed, living on average between 1000 and 2000 years of age. Males are about 1.8 metres long and females are about 2.1 metres tall. The birth process of an Alkeis is similar to that of an oviparous animal. They are born in mineral formations or cavern-like veins in naturally created mineral cocoons. The life essence in their case manifests suddenly and the type of essence will depend on the affinity of the mineral formation in the vicinity. If the vein from which it is born is near a volcanic area the type of essence will be Ekki, if it is born high in the mountains it will be Mysky, if it is on the coast or in the deep sea, it will be a Mer and if it is located in the middle of a forest it will be Kiv.
