"Do you think I'm afraid of death? Don't you know anything about us? Our purpose is to reach our goddess in her glory and be part of her. Only he who frees himself from his ties to this plane understands the true meaning of existence, which is none other than to be a part of her, only then can he see the truth. Come to me that my Tukul awaits you to give you as an offering for my goddess is hungry and you will be an excellent offering from me. Come to send you before her but not in a way pleasing to you."
-Og Dir Mat, Ux-Uhl Warrior.
Native to the Meris universe, the Ux-Uhl are the dominant race on Domar, the world of which they are native. Their culture is based on both an understanding of death and all aspects of it. This is why their existence revolves around the moment their goddess calls them into her presence. This process in which a Ux-Uhl crosses the veil into the land of the dead is represented by a metaphysical manifestation in which a pillar of necrotic energy is expelled from their bodies projecting both heavenward and earthward. This is the main reason why religion plays such a predominant role in their lives and society. This is also the reason why the Uhla-Bau cult has so many followers, although it should be noted that in settlements further away from the capital, where a greater variety of beliefs in other gods coexist, Ux-Uhl can be found professing other religions or worshipping other deities. Some solitary nomads are also known to have decided not to worship any gods, but it should be noted that these are exceptional cases.
In biological terms, the lifespan of an Ux-Uhl can be up to 400 years, although unlike other races, it is viewed with suspicion if someone lives beyond 300 years, as this is interpreted as meaning that the Ux-Uhl has not fulfilled his purpose in life or has committed some fault or affront against Uhla-Bau, which is why she does not wish to call him into her presence until her servant makes amends for his mistakes or atone for his sins.
Within the hierarchy of sins, one of the most serious is that which involves taking one's own life of one's own free will, for that would mean that the Ux-Uhl is disobeying his goddess. The times when this has happened, it has been possible to identify such an event, as there was no such effect due to the absence of the supernatural manifestation of necrotic energy. According to their beliefs those who take their lives willingly wander the surface of Domar for a time in an spectral form before becoming necrotic energy although others believe that like the sacrifices, Uhla-Bau devours them, spending an eternity being torturously digested in her bowels. On such occasions the family of the Ux-Uhl who committed such an affront is stripped of its privileges and demoted in the social pyramid if they belong to a higher caste, otherwise there are no major repercussions. That is why, to avoid problems for their families, many leave the city to die in solitude somewhere where their remains cannot be recognised or found.
About their economy, because of their ritualistic nature, their main activity revolves around the slave trade which they can obtain through raids, wars in which they get involved or simply by asking for them as payment in exchange for services of different kinds such as health and welfare as their technology is the most advanced by far in Domar.
