Natives from a planet called Tekuno which is located in the Erilen universe, the Ikanata are a race of Technomages whose technology and magic system is based on sound.

It is important to them to pursue the systematic study and understanding of the whole, which includes magic itself. For this reason they value academic knowledge considerably.

Their society is founded on a backbone called magical energy crystals or magic crystals. These are used to give life to their technology as they have the property of either amplifying, accumulating or channelling their magic or rather the sound of it in the form of energy. The latter is achieved through a magic circuit surgically implanted in the body of the magician, which is called Ahokairo. This circuit consists of white lines that go from one crystal to another but at the moment the magician begins to channel energy to do some effect, they light up with the colour representative of the type of magic he or she possesses.

This type of technology is a blessing and curse for the Ikanata since with the exception of those used in the Ahokairo, the other magic crystals have a lifespan which varies depending on their use but the rate at which they are consumed is greater than the rate at which they are obtained. Magic crystals grow naturally in places with a strong magical influence known as "magic accumulation zones" although it takes decades if not centuries for them to mature before they are harvested, although this will depend on the magical influence in the place. The more immature the crystal, the more unstable and volatile it is. Newly born crystals are transparent and remain so throughout their growth period. When they reach their full size they begin to darken to a deep white colour.
